This year’s holiday window display contest organized by the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce yielded some surprises for judges despite the slow economy.
“We really didn’t know what we would find,” said a press release from the chamber. “We were delighted to find a number of new stores and many other stores who made special efforts to make our town feel merry and bright.”
Judges who have served the chamber in deciding the winners for about 10 years now, include Barclay Fryery, interior designer; Mary Field Barrett, art consultant and librarian; Barbara Fenton, retired business manager of Greenwich Magazine and her husband, Bruce Croaning, who functions as chauffeur also; Mary Ann Melillo De Felice of WGCH; Mary Ann Morrison, president of the Greenwich Chamber; and Betsy Galindo, Prudential Connecticut Realty agent.
In three days, judges cover Greenwich from Byram to Old Greenwich, and often retrace their steps to see the windows in daylight and lit up at night.
