The 17-year-old New Hanover High School senior didn't bother getting manicures because of her nail-biting habit. She'd never had her eyebrows waxed. She also hasn't focused on school the last few years and has vowed to re-commit to her classes this year and graduate.

For these two women – teacher Kaye Cate and student Raina Walmer – Tuesday was a day of new beginnings as they won makeovers in the StarNews' first New Year, New You back-to-school contest.
