If you have a cellar that floods when there’s heavy rain or a roof that needs work, today’s the day to keep the buckets, brooms and pumps ready. The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for most of New Jersey, including Hunterdon, as well as parts of nearby Pennsylvania.

By 8 a.m. nearly 2.5 inches of rain had fallen in the Croton area of Raritan and Delaware townships, and NWS radar shows more rain headed slowly northeast over the Garden State.

“Some very heavy rain embedded in this area is capable of dumping another 1 to 2 inches of rain,” NWS said.

A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect through late tonight, with as much as 3 or 4 inches of rain possible in Hunterdon by midnight.

Additional flooding of roadways, low-lying areas and small streams can be expected where the heaviest rain falls, NWS said.

The weather service asked that people report flooding or wind damage to its Mount Holly office by calling toll-free 877-633-6772.
