The family suits up and attends our 9 p.m. Christmas Eve vigil Mass at our parish. It used to be held at the traditional 11:30 but li'l kids and the elderly found it difficult to get about. Holy Family is packed with the usual parishioners and an influx of welcome visitors. Two eighth-graders are honored each year to portray Mary and Joseph and the choir's supreme efforts are excellent as usual (except for hearing my favorite Christmas song, "O Holy Night." That song needs to be sung by a deep male voice as done in my favorite version by Mario Lanza. If you've never heard ol' Mario-baby wail away on it, you are missing the musical essence of spiritual Christmas! That superb voice range isn't come by often so they do the best they can). We return home to enjoy wifey Sharon's excellent homemade nut roll and other tasty delectable holiday baked goods before we open just one gift apiece.
