A Fleming man is being held on $55,000 bond after he was charged with taking more than $12,000 in jewelry from a Marietta home.

According to Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks, Devan W. Anderson, 20, of 637 Martin Drive, was a family friend of the victim, Susan Berry, of 870 Rubrake Road, Marietta.

On July 25, Berry had reported the theft of a diamond bracelet, pearl ring and matching earrings and a black onyx ring.

Mincks said a canvass of local jewelry stores and pawn shops led to information that indicated Anderson had solicited two women to sell the diamond bracelet.

The women had sold the bracelet and other items to a jewelry store in Parkersburg for $800 and Anderson allegedly gave them approximately $250 for their help. They also said that Anderson gave them a pair of onyx earrings the victim later identified as being stolen from her residence.

Mincks said Anderson declined to answer any questions and was subsequently arrested on felony charges of burglary, tampering with evidence and theft.
