Dec 28, 2009After inviting a group of journalists to a sneak preview at its head office, Samsung Electronics Indonesia let us play around with one of its LED TVs.
I said I was interested. “Can I see the largest LED TV you have?” I asked Shinta Wardiastuti from corporate marketing, in my email. After a few days, I received a huge box, almost as large as my refrigerator. Thereafter, courtesy of Samsung Electronics Indonesia, I have been able to watch TV broadcasts, DVD movies and even YouTube on a 55-inch screen.
Yes, a huge 55-inch TV. I almost regretted asking for the biggest model as I had to make space for it in my tiny living room. It will be a relief when they take it back early January, although I will miss it. But I will feel more at ease because not only can I reclaim the space, I will no longer have to worry about protecting this Rp 60 million ($US6,000) item.
Samsung, reportedly the worldwide leader in LCD and LED TVs, currently offers three different series of LED TV. These are the B8000, B7000 and B6000.

Where would you recommend I go to repair/refurbish my vintage LCD watch?
CommentsQ: I have a vintage 1984 Seiko LCD digital watch. It has sentimental value to me. It has four buttons that are very hard to press and the quartz display is scratched. Can anyone recommend a place that specializes in LCD watch refurbishing/repair?

I have a Pulsar (now owned by Seiko) watch about the same vintage with almost the same problems as yours. Call them and they can tell you if they have the parts to repair it or not. In my case the buttons were sticky and the crystal was cracked. They told me they could repair it and I sent it in. I got it back in about 2 weeks with a letter saying they could not replace the crystal as their replacement stock was depleted and it was no longer being made. They did, however, fix the buttons and replaced the battery at no charge. It just depends on what parts they have left over.
Can an LCD watch that has been damaged by static electricity be repaired?
Q: I have an LCD watch whos display went completely blank after about only one week. I believe static electricity had something to do with it. Is there any way that it can be fixed, or is it just trash now?
A: Most LCD watches are fairly cheap and don't pay to repair. It is possible that the battery contacts are not making a good connection. Try to clean and make the connections touch the battery correctly. If not, trash the watch.
