Design and Features

Like the previous iterations of the Clip, the new Sansa Clip Zip is compact at 2.3x1.4x0.8 inches (HWD); it’s barely noticeable when attached to a belt or bag via the clip that gives the player half of its name. Also like the Clip+, it comes in two capacities: 4GB (our test unit) for $49, and 8GB for $69. SanDisk, being primarily a solid-state media company, also of course includes a MicroSD card slot that’ll allow you to add extra capacity up to an additional 32GB.

Unless you need the absolute maximum amount of space for your music, we see little reason to pay the $20 extra for the model with 8GB of internal storage when an 8GB MicroSD card can be had online for well under $10 at the time of this review in late August 2011, and 16GB cards are available for under $25.

The big differences between the Clip Zip and the previous Clip+ are the addition of a 1.1-inch color LCD screen (versus the two-color OLED screen of the previous Clips), and added support for unprotected AAC files.
