Seagate is getting on the SSD wagon it seems: they have announced an initial line of solid state drives.

The new SSD line is called Pulsar. This will not be competiting with OCZ's Agility drivies, or Falcon II drives just yet though -- these first models are aimed at the "enterprise blade and general server applications." 

Using something Seagate refers to as single-level cell technology, the new Pulsar drives will have up to a 200GB capacity. Seagate also claims the SSD's will have 30,000 read IOPS and 25,000 write IOPS, 240MB/s sequential read and 200 MB/s sequential write speeds. The drives are also well protected with a 5-year limited warranty.

Seagate has already started sending some Pulsar unts to various unmentioned OEMs.

Storage companies don't get much larger than Seagate -- so it will be interesting to watch what prices their SSDs will sell for once they will eventually be offered to the more mainsteam consumers.
