Jones Group earnings shrink on acquisition charges
Jul 27, 2011The Jones Group reported Wednesday that net income shrank during the second quarter on acquisition and other charges, while revenues increased.
The apparel company, which has offices in Bristol Township, said net income was $5.4 million, or 6 cents a share, compared to $25.8 million, or 30 cents a share, last year. Excluding its acquisition of the Stuart Weitzman shoe business and other charges, earnings would be 33 cents a share, down from 45 cents.
"We are pleased with our results for the second quarter," CEO Wesley Card said in a statement. "Our operating trends in the core businesses continue to improve as a result of our focus on brand management, inventory planning and controlling costs and expenses."
The Jones Group, which owns clothing and footwear brands including Nine West, Jones New York, Anne Klein and its newest acquisition, Kurt Geiger, said revenues were $888 million for the quarter, up from $860 million.

Instructions for Anne Klein cafeteria table from Debbie Travis' Painted House?
Q: Can someone please help me find a step-by-step on this project:
On Debbie Travis' Painted House, Debbie redid an office cafeteria for Anne Klein, the fashion company. Among the projects was a renovation to the dining table.
Debbie laid a bunch of old clothing mock-up papers on the table, glued them on, put a clear layer on it, and did some design and tinting things to it, and it turned out to be a really classy deal.
If anyone knows what I'm talking about and can help me out, please help! I want to do the same project for my college newsroom, except with old newspapers. It would be a nice centerpiece for our meeting area, but I want to do it right.

A: Shellac or "polyeurothane" in a can painted over your materials layer by layer.
The trick is to not make the layers too thick or they will dry on top but not bottom and the thing will get ruined as the top layers will tear and get peeled off.
I ruined a beautiful Thai table this way that I was trying to restore. Damn. And it was part of a set too.
