The RSVP Volunteer Program is conducting a search for Pittsfield’s very best "good neighbors" -- those who quietly perform acts of kindness for others next door.

What makes a good neighbor? Think: Someone who may, without fanfare, shovel an elderly neighbor’s driveway; check in daily on a homebound or disabled neighbor; take someone shopping who doesn’t have a car; provide a meal for someone who has lost their job; or simply plant a garden at the end of the street to make their neighborhood more beautiful.

Normalyn Powers, of Pittsfield, is organizing the project.

"Although we have many fantastic citizens who contribute to community organizations, serve on committees, and publicly support our city and its residents, these folks have been recognized often in the past," Powers said. "We are looking for unsung angels who make life better just because they care. These are the Good Neighbors we would like to place in the spotlight
