(RTTNews) - Luxury-jewelry retailer Tiffany & Co. (TIF: News ) is scheduled to report second-quarter results on Friday. The company's results today will provide an insight into luxury spending pattern in the economic situation threatened by recession.

The New York-based company, founded in 1837, is engaged in the design, manufacture, and retail of fine jewelry. Its products include fine and solitaire jewelry; diamond engagement rings and wedding bands; as well as sterling silver, gold, and platinum jewelry. The company also provides timepieces, sterling silver goods, china, crystal, stationery, fragrances, personal accessories, and leather goods.

Barclays Capital Americas in a recent client note raised its second-quarter earnings estimate for the company to $0.70 per share from $0.66 per share based on its expectations for solid comparable sales growth in the quarter, but maintained its full year 2011 estimates.

"We believe the top-line momentum in 2Q was likely solid, aided by new collections including yellow diamonds as well as the Tiffany "Locks" collection. In addition we believe that the company has continued to benefit from ongoing strength in the "Keys" collection. We expect that growth will largely be broad-based across geographies and categories, with the exception of Japan, where we are expecting comps to be flat year over year," the brokerage noted.
