Diamond Color

The more color a diamond has, the less light passes through the stone to make it sparkle. A colorless diamond allows more light to pass through it to create the maximum amount of brilliance. Most diamonds have subtle shade differences, ranging from nearly colorless to light yellow. Most appear colorless to the unaided eye. The diamond industry uses a letter system to grade the color of diamonds, from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow). A diamond with less color is more valuable. I only sell diamonds with a color grade of K or better. Diamonds in the D, E and F color range are graded as “colorless” with D being absolutely colorless and completely devoid of body color. This is the highest and most exceptional color range for a diamond in the normal color range as these diamonds are extremely rare and allow the most light to pass through without being absorbed. Diamonds in the G, H, I and J color range appear colorless in a face-up position but actually have a slightly tinted white color that is noticeable when compared to colorless diamonds in the D-F range. Near-colorless diamonds are an excellent value because they not only have a high color grade but are more affordable than colorless diamonds. Faint color diamonds show faint yellow color face-up and face-dow. When they are mounted in a jewelry setting, smaller stones appear colorless but larger stones show a slight yellow tint. Diamonds in the N through U color range are considered very light yellow and are sometimes referred to as Cape diamonds. They appear very light yellow face-up and face-down, even when mounted in a jewelry item. Light yellow diamonds in the V through Z color range show substantial color face-up or face-down, loose or mounted.

Diamond Clarity

The natural imperfections in diamonds are called inclusions -- minerals or crystals trapped inside the stone during its formation. The characteristics of the inclusions determine the clarity of the diamond. Diamonds that have no inclusions will reflect more light and are very rare. Nearly all diamonds contain these inclusions, or tiny "birthmarks," which make each stone unique. Most are unseen to the unaided eye; jewelers need magnifiers to identify them. VVS & VS diamonds are rare and extremely expensive, especially as carat sizes increase.

Do you offer ring resizing? Do you offer different settings?
Our policy is for the buyer to take care of resizing. As far as different settings are concerned, we have in the past seriously considered offering those types of services. However, we have learned that it is simply best that buyer takes care of resizing or obtaining different settings. Why? Well, if the size is not perfect, or the new setting isn’t quite to your liking, the buyer’s local  jeweler is right there on hand to fix it, which saves you time, money, and frustration because you don't have to send the ring back and forth until its right.
We can as a last resort offer ring sizing for an extra charge. But, typically it works best for the customer to handle that locally. We also would advise you to go to a jewelry REPAIR shop, rather than a RETAIL jewelry store. They are usually 25% to 40% lower in price.

Why may my Local Jeweler not agree with your assessment of the stone's clarity, color, etc.?        
Diamond grading is NOT a scientific process! It can vary from one appraiser to another. It is a proven fact that EGL, IGA, and GIA labs (the three most respected gemological labs) will ALL vary in their gradings and appraisal values on the exact same diamond! Thus, sometimes when a customer goes to his local jeweler for an opinion on the purchase, from time to time, there are occurrences when the jeweler may seek to discredit the purchase. Why? It's quite simple, really, the JEWELER IS IN BUSINESS TO SELL HIS OR HER PRODUCTS!
THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE IF THE JEWELER SUSPECTS YOUR DIAMOND WAS PURCHASED ONLINE!!
Why?
They’ve just learned two things:
1) They have lost a potential customer because you didn’t buy from them.
2) You may become a potential customer if they can convincingly discredit your diamond.
Solution: Always use a truly CERTIFIED, INDEPENDENT appraiser who is not a seller of diamonds.
