Powerade Tigers need a Big Man
Aug 22, 2011MANILA, Philippines – With the PBA Governors Cup wrapped up, focus now shifts on the coming PBA draft set this Sunday, August 28, at the Robinson’s Place in Ermita. Powerade will be drafting first and as per coach Bo Perasol, they are setting their eyes on Smart Gilas gunner and former DLSU star JV Casio .
Powerade had originally planned to make another Smart Gilas star in Chris Tiu as their first draft pick but the former Ateneo Blue Eagle had decided to forego joining the draft this year.
And while Casio has been known to nail those long bombs from afar, the choice seems to be the best one that the Tigers can make at this point with no dominant big man available which could certainly help their cause.
Perasol is also hoping that Casio would not suddenly withdraw from the draft. If so, he has named other Smart Gilas players like Marcio Lassiter and Chris Lutz as their potential picks.
Other players expected to go early in the draft include Smart Gilas players Andy Mark Barocca, Dylan Ababou, Mac Baracael, Jason Ballesteros and Paul Lee of UE.

Q: I need a graphing calculator for my AP Calc class, but I'd like to spend as little money as possible. I noticed that Casio calculators are a lot cheaper. I just wanted to know if the price of the Casio is worth it, as I only need a graphing calculator, nothing fancy with games or anything. Do they break easily or have significantly fewer functions? Any huge differences? Should I invest in a TI calculator or will Casio be good enough?
A: Based on what I've seen/heard, Casio calculators actually have several more features than popular TI-8x models. Of course, these extra features are what cause them to be prohibited on examinations, such as the SATs, ACTs, etc.
The most popular calculator I've seen today is the TI-8x series, particularly the TI-83(+) and TI-84+. The TI-89 and TI-92 are also quite popular, but also have a Computer Algebra System, which allows them to solve variables in equations, something their predecessors cannot do. Because of this, however, the TI-89/92 are not allowed on certain exams.
I know that it also depends on the teacher. Most teachers I've seen prefer the TI calculators as well, but this varies. Ask your teacher for more information on which you should get.
If you need a calculator that has a lot of features and don't plan on taking examinations that require a calculator, go for the Casio. If you just want a general use calculator that is permitted on tests but has several less feature, try the TI models.
Of course, in terms of graphing, either will do. It's up to you.
