Lorus Therapeutics has net loss of $5M for fiscal 2011

TORONTO - Cancer drug developer Lorus Therapeutics Inc. (TSX:LOR) cut its annual operating losses for the fiscal 2011 year ended May 31.

The Toronto company said Friday its loss from operations dropped to $5 million or 38 cents a share from $5.7 million or 61 cents a year earlier.

On a net basis, however, the company did worse since it had net earnings of $5.3 million or 57 cents a share for fiscal 2010.

Lorus booked an $11 million gain that year related to its convertible debentures. That gain helped offset the operating loss and produce a healthy net profit.
