Madoff-Owned Items Auctioned Off In San Diego

SAN DIEGO -- Rare and collectible items belonging to Ponzi scheme mastermind Bernie Madoff and many of his victims were auctioned off in San Diego Monday, 10News reported.

The items were featured in an auction at the Hilton Mission Valley, where hundreds of thousands of dollars in jewelry, art and Persian rugs were also available for bid. Most of those items belonged to Madoff's victims, whom he defrauded of about $65 billion.

10News was there as one-of-a-kind Andy Warhol sketches, an original Picasso painting and five-karat diamond rings went to the highest bidder.

Items once belonging to Madoff included a collection of Swatch watches -- each valued at roughly $100 -- and a mink coat belonging to Madoff's wife.

Madoff is now in prison and many of his victims are broke, and Monday's auction was a way for some of them to recoup some of their money.
